To provide administrative, research, and project support to company personnel involved in analyzing material performance, supplier capabilities, and unit costs. Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises planners. Coordinates the setting of goals and objectives for planners and monitors the progress of mutually agreed upon goals, objectives, and assigned projects. 
  • Organizes and assigns work according to available skills, knowledge, and experience. Minimizes assembly downtime, meet or exceed goals and objectives in regard to cost savings, quality, inventory levels and assembly downtime.
  • Provides regular training, instruction, and guidance to include (but not limited to) the department's proper planning guidelines and procedures, strategies, engineering changes, the MRP system, and PC systems.
  • Approves/disapproves vacation and business travel, engages in disciplinary actions, and conducts performance evaluations in regards to planners. Engages in conflict resolution and PPQ activities.
  • Prepare, revise and reschedule orders as needed. Perform direct labor planning for responsible departments. Monitor and evaluate production statistics and advise on performance standards. Evaluate established time standards in relation to 
  • actual performance and recommends action as needed. 
  • Maintains positive relations with suppliers through thorough communication of STIHL philosophy, material requirements and pricing objectives. Contacts suppliers regarding material problems, such as delayed receipt, poor quality, wrong items, etc., 
  • and resolves issues.
  • Visits supplier locations to review and analyze operations, and checks quality, evaluating short-term and long-term abilities of suppliers to meet STIHL expectations. Analyzes and leads efforts to develop critical suppliers as identified through the Logistics Audit process.
  • Works with other departments' personnel, such as Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, etc. to coordinate schedules for material and tooling procurement, tool conditioning, blueprints, design and construction of special tooling to avoid delays along with rectifying defective or unacceptable goods, develop plans for future requirements, or incorporate technical needs into future deliveries.
  • Maintains manual and computerized records and documentation pertaining to past activities, order specifications, supplier specifications and performance histories, etc. and provide information to management as needed.
  • Works with Accounts Payable to ensure timely payment of satisfactory materials received and return/rework of materials that are defective.  
  • Maintains currency with respect to technical and professional skills by attending training classes, special technical and administration courses, seminars, exhibits, and trade shows as needed.
  • Assumes additional related responsibilities as needed.

Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.                    
  • 5+ years related experience preferred.
  • Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of MRP system; SAP applications preferred.
