This position will direct the work, people and results on assigned shifts in the Machining Unit, including the Crankshaft and Piston departments. To produce items adhering to STIHL Inc specifications regarding critical dimension and exact tolerances. To train employees, set production and performance goals, organize and assign work, monitor safety and maintain a productive and motivational climate.

Job Duties
  • Directs, supervises and coordinates set-ups and operations in order to provide economical part/product manufacturing that meets quality, quantity, schedule and cost requirements. Provides guidance to Machining Unit Leads regarding the coordination of department standards with overall STIHL Inc. objectives.
  • Organizes and assigns work, utilizing available skills, knowledge and experience, labor hours, machines and tooling most efficiently in order to obtain the most favorable machining costs, quality and workmanship.
  • Provides regular training, instruction, guidance and close surveillance on set-up procedures and machining operations.
  • Analyzes and diagnoses machining and fixture problems, machine malfunctions, etc., to expedite and coordinate corrective and preventive procedures and to prevent excessive downtime and interrupted schedules.
  • Coordinates production with Quality Assurance inspection activities as they relate to work in progress. Integrates required revisions and discrepancy requests for products or processes as necessary.
  • Provides information and collaborates with Machining Engineers, Leads, Scheduling, and other Production departments to assist with and/or implement programs related to work simplification, cost reduction, new tooling and methods, labor hour planning, scheduling, machine repairing and maintenance.
  • Develops new processes and initiates process improvements.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of labor in accordance with skill requirements, work levels and schedules, labor hour and training programs.
  • Maintains conformance with STIHL Inc. employee and safety rules and regulations, issues STIHL Inc. policy violation warnings and administers approved disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Participates in and coordinates internal programs, such as communications, vacation schedules, job analysis and evaluation, employee performance reviews, wage administration, etc.
  • Maintains currency with respect to technical and supervisory skills by attending training classes, special technical and administration courses and seminars as needed. All work affecting product quality shall be competent on the basis of appropriate education, training classes, special technical and administration courses and seminars as needed.
Specifications
  • 4 year college degree in related field
  • 5 years of supervisory experience
  • 5 years CNC Machining experience.
