Lead Person Tool & Die - Programming / Design

This individual will organize and assign work. They will also oversee and participate in the fabrication of molds, tools, dies, fixtures and other equipment, providing assistance to less experienced Tool & Die associates and resolving difficult or unusual problems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organizes and assigns work to best utilize available skills, knowledge and experience, labor hours, machines and tooling.
  • Work will be assigned in such a manner as to ensure most efficient use of all resources while providing most favorable results of quality, workmanship and availability.
  • Participates in the design and testing of new equipment or molds.
  • Analyzes machining, tooling or equipment for malfunctions to expedite and coordinate corrective procedures.
  • Ensures minimal production down time due to tooling or equipment problems.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of labor in accordance with skill requirements, work levels and schedules, labor hour and training programs.
  • Uses technical expertise to determine solutions for mold or equipment problems.
  • Schedules and supervises these and other repairs in coordination with other functional departments.
  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions and visualizes product, to determine actions required to fabricate parts or assemble automation equipment, according to specs and in timely manner.
  • Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Uses advanced knowledge in plastic injection molding or automation equipment, to drive improvements or advanced knowledge in machine technology to drive process improvements.
  • Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
  • Monitors production, work completion, and/or personnel performance to ensure proper part/product/equipment completion with respect to all quality and quantity standards.
  • Reviews work methods and recommends procedural or process changes to better accomplish department goals.
  • Responds to procedural problems or technical questions with respect to quality, operations, or other requirements.
  • Maintains records, files and other documentation pertinent to special and regular assignments performed.
  • Oversees hourly employees’ attendance and coordinates contractors’ activities and contracts.


  • High school degree or equivalent plus graduation from certified Apprenticeship Program and possession of a Journeyman card.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering desired.
  • Can substitute Journeyman card for 10 plus years’ experience.
  • Frequent standing, occasional walking or sitting; using of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Reaching with hands and arms, and stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
