Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review contracts prior to execution on behalf of STIHL Inc. Draft, revise and negotiate terms as appropriate. Provide advice regarding and participate in contract negotiations and transactional matters. Draft and manage template framework contracts and specific terms and conditions for various departments. Assist in contract management coordination, including maintenance and enforcement of contract-related policies.
  • Provide legal advice on data governance, including data privacy, cybersecurity, and other data protection related topics. 
  • Provide legal advice on a variety of regulatory topics, including e-commerce, advertising, and other retail/commerce related regulations.  Assist in supporting trade compliance efforts, including tariff analysis, and export control, where applicable.
  • Keep current on developments in federal, state and local laws and regulations. Consult General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, and STIHL management regarding legislative and regulatory changes, and significant court rulings. Provide advice to branch management regarding state and local regulations relating to dealership relations.
  • Provide legal advice on bankruptcy related matters, supplier/dealer disputes, and commercial litigation or claims brought by or against STIHL. Work with outside counsel on management of any potential litigation or disputes, where appropriate.
  • Support Product Information and Product Compliance Departments in regulatory product compliance topics, including state-specific legislation, chemical compliance, emissions compliance, and product liability, as needed.
  • Communicate/interact with outside counsel as required.

Specifications

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D, J.D.) 
  • Virginia (or other) State Bar Admission
  • 5+ years experience in general civil legal practice, top-tier law firm or in house counsel experience preferred
  • Exceptional legal writing and research skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
