About You

Coordinate the complex and in-depth activities involved in the procurement of several types of goods and services required for production and operation within established guidelines. To provide administrative, research, and project support to company personnel involved in analyzing material performance, supplier capabilities, and unit costs. To assist other departments in the development and planning for new or revised systems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating the procurement of the more difficult and intricate components and parts in order to maintain proper levels of production and operation.
  • Reviews and analyzes procurement requirements in MRP (Material Requirement Planning), and places orders accordingly.
  • Researches and develops competent suppliers of high quality components by preparing bids, proposals, or other informational requests that contain material specification and supplier operation data.
  • Analyzes requested materials, assessing financial stability and manufacturing capabilities of suppliers, and assists in making the best sourcing decisions for the STIHL Group.
  • Maintains positive relations with existing suppliers through communications of STIHL philosophy, material requirements, and pricing objectives.
  • Contacts suppliers regarding complex material problems and resolves issues.
  • Visits supplier locations to negotiate prices, review and analyze operations, and check quality, evaluating short-term and long-term ability of suppliers to meet STIHL expectations.
  • Works with other department personnel, such as Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, etc. to rectify defective or unacceptable goods, plan for future requirements, or incorporate technical needs into future bids and proposals.
  • Maintains records and documentation pertaining to past activities, order specifications, supplier specifications and performance histories, etc. and provides information to management as needed.
  • Works with Accounts Payable to ensure timely payment of conforming materials received and return/rework of materials that are defective.
  • Approves invoices for payment. Cooperates with the STIHL Purchasing Group worldwide by sharing pertinent data and cost analyses as required, in order to establish optimal global supply chain management strategies.\
  • Maintains currency with respect to technical and professional skills by attending training classes, special technical and administration courses, seminars, exhibits and trade shows as needed.
  • May assist other Procurement Buyers in resolving issues pertaining to the contracts they support.
  • All work affecting product quality shall be competent on the basis of appropriate education, training, skills, and experience. Assumes additional related responsibilities as required.

Specifications

  • 4 year college degree in related discipline or experience equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience.
