Senior Systems Administrator

This individual will be responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. They will serve as the lead technical expert in the area of system administration for all IT systems. They will recommend the redesign and configuration of operating systems, AV, telephony, and system applications. They will also investigate and analyze feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Additionally, they will identify methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of all servers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities. As the most senior system administrator, this position has the responsibility to leads a team of system administrators in projects, training, troubleshooting, task designation and daily operations
  • Manages the day-to-day operations, maintenance and administration of all Audio/Visual (AV) systems. Ensures quality inventory and lifecycle management of the equipment. Documents and maintains operating instructions for all AV systems for user quick reference
  • Manages the day-to-day operations for the company telephony system to include terminal systems, SIP Trunks, POTS lines and PRI connections. Maintains accurate system architecture diagrams for rapid troubleshooting. Ensures 99.999% uptime for all customers. Ensures accurate accountability and inventory for all terminal devices
  • Manages the day-to-day administration, operations and troubleshooting of all client terminal devices to include laptops, desktops, iPads, iPhones, air cards and RF Scanners. Ensures client operating systems are patch and version compliant. Responsible for client asset inventory. Builds software packages for software deployment system. Manages mobile device management and ensures security and patch compliance for all mobile devices. Manages mobile device usage and billing. Maintains accountability and maintenance for all RF guns
  • Performs troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.  Maintains license compliance for all systems. Plans, installs and maintains Microsoft Exchange services.  Establishes, maintains and manages Active Directory objects and local user accounts. Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on servers. Provides server support related to other software
  • Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the operating systems, disk arrays, hosts, fiber channel switches and blade chassis. Performs all administrative tasks associated with backup and recovery. Designs and implements custom disaster recovery plans for each application requirement
  • Performs all administrative tasks associated with the virtual server environment. Designs and documents standards for server deployment, configuration, maintenance and patching. Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host resources. Ensures redundancy in the architecture for disaster recovery
  • Performs all administrative tasks associated with the SAN Storage environment including SAN switching. Ensures 99.999% availability and fully redundant storage solutions. Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse
  • Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware and software. Maintains situational awareness on the air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system), generator, house-power and fire protection system. Coordinates with Facilities with regards to any issues or maintenance required
  • Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for STIHL to take advantage of new technology

Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree required. Computer Science preferred
  • 10 years of work experience in complex system design, programming and scripting and system administration.
  • Strong understanding and experience with the OSI stack, Windows Server administration, Linux/Unix Administration, Windows 10 administration, SAN storage, SAN switching, vmWare administration, ESX administration, containers, cloud tenant administration, basic networking, basic telephony, scripting, disaster recovery planning, backup/restore systems, O365, Data Center operations, and Microsoft Exchange Administration.
  • Must be proactive and able to work with minimal supervision.  Must have sound leadership experience.  Must be absolutely customer focused with solid communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills. Be able to lead medium to large size projects.
  •  Must be willing to work occasional weekends and on/call for emergency maintenance 24/7.
  • Bi-lingual (German and English) preferred
