Project Outline:

STIHL Inc. has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Intern in our Trimmer Line Department! 

Intern will support 3 major projects.

1) Effects of environmental conditions over time on trimmer line properties. 

2) In-line diameter measurement for extrusion.

3) Tension measurement in extrusion & quiet line forming.

Project Goals:

• Complete scientific study on the effects of temperature and humidity over time on various sizes of trimmer line.  Develop PPT to summarize findings and present to stakeholders.
• Support engineering team in designing and constructing mounting and housing equipment after successful prototyping for in-line measurement system.
• Design and help integrate, with support of engineering and maintenance, a tension measurement system for each winding position of the 3 skein extruders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer mechanical engineering focus (or similar).  Bonus if candidate has prior design experience. Minimum 2.5 GPA.
