Export Logistic Intern

About Us:

As a family-owned company, it’s the people who continue to make STIHL a successful, world-class brand. Since revolutionizing the forestry industry in Germany with the first electric chainsaw in 1926, the STIHL name has remained synonymous with outstanding innovations, high-quality products and comprehensive service.

Project Outline:

STIHL Inc. has an opening for a full time Export Logistics Intern in our Sales Operations Department!

STIHL Inc. maintains an inventory of sellable items at the IIC warehouse (former Lillian Vernon building) on International Parkway in VA Beach. Items are shipped from this location to STIHL affiliates on 5 continents. The process for processing orders for export is complex, in large part because the orders interface with multiple entities in the shipping industry as well as national governments. The current process for processing orders through shipment has been developed over several decades and requires significant manual effort.

Project Goals:

  1. Learn and map the current process to sufficient degree for this project.
  2. Identify common elements across the range of processed orders.
  3. Propose improvements and refinements to the process.
  4. Sufficiently document this methodology and results so that it may be repeated in the future and further refined.
