Human Resources Coordinator - Leave / FML

This individual will provide education and administration of leave benefits and regulations including Family Medical Leave (FML), Short Term and Long Term Disability (STD/LTD), ensure compliance with all multi-state (to include but not limited to California, Colorado, Connecticut, North Carolina, Washington, and Wisconsin), and federal applicable regulations

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Communicates and meets with employees, supervisors, and Human Resource Business Leaders regarding FMLA, STD, and LTD promptly, courteously, and professionally
  • Administers FML, STD and LTD in accordance with STIHL policies, plan documents, and multi-state and federal regulations
  • Works with the outsourced leave provider to ensure accuracy in claims processing and satisfaction of customers (employees on leave)
  • Maintains leave hours in the payroll system ensuring that hours are charged to the appropriate pay codes
  • Prepares weekly and ad hoc reports on all leave statuses including leave hours balances ensuring in-house payroll records align with outsourced leave provider records
  • Maintains knowledge of multi-state and federal legal and regulatory changes, trends, and other developments affecting leave benefits
  • Ensures confidentiality of information and HIPPA compliance
  • Ensures that all required paperwork is completed and maintained in accordance with STIHL’s record retention policy


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in disability, FML, and leave management
  • Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and agency interpretations or opinions related to leave benefits
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to clearly explain leave benefits in easily understood terms
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong collaboration skills, working with employees, supervisors, Human Resource Business Leaders, and external leave administrator
  • Ultipro/UKG experience preferred
