Hazardous Materials Specialist
Purpose
Under general supervision, develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive hazardous materials control, mitigation and response program.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Enforces appropriate regulations, codes and laws and acts as liaison with regulatory agencies.
- Evaluates hazardous materials packaging, transportation, treatment and disposal vendors for acceptability.
- Monitor and update (DG) shipping processes, guidebook(s) and work instructions as appropriate.
- Responds to hazardous materials spills and prepares reports to management on investigations and evaluations of hazardous waste materials.
- Maintains records such as hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests and associated documents.
- Administers hazardous materials minimization programs, provides training, and develops and maintains quality assurance programs.
- Conducts inspections and investigations of facilities and sites where hazardous materials are stored and used.
- Responsible for lithium ion battery recycling and DDR requirements and programs
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Specifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry or related discipline highly preferred or combination of education and relevant experience.
- 5+ years of related compliance/regulatory experience is preferred.
- IATA/IMDG/DOT Certified
- Knowledge of transport and disposal procedures for safe handling of hazardous materials, namely Li-Ion batteries, materials of trade, and limited quantity shipments.
- Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with PHMSA/DOT/IATA/IMDG standards.
