Hazardous Materials Specialist

Under general supervision, develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive hazardous materials control, mitigation and response program.

• Enforces appropriate regulations, codes and laws and acts as liaison with regulatory agencies.
• Evaluates hazardous materials packaging, transportation, treatment and disposal vendors for acceptability.
• Monitor and update (DG) shipping processes, guidebook(s) and work instructions as appropriate.
• Responds to hazardous materials spills and prepares reports to management on investigations and evaluations of hazardous waste materials.
• Maintains records such as hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests and associated documents.
• Administers hazardous materials minimization programs, provides training, and develops and maintains quality assurance programs.
• Conducts inspections and investigations of facilities and sites where hazardous materials are stored and used.
• Responsible for lithium ion battery recycling and DDR requirements and programs
• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry or related discipline highly preferred or combination of education and relevant experience.
• 5+ years of related compliance/regulatory experience is preferred. 
• IATA/IMDG/DOT Certified
• Knowledge of transport and disposal procedures for safe handling of hazardous materials, namely Li-Ion batteries, materials of trade, and limited quantity shipments.
• Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with PHMSA/DOT/IATA/IMDG standards.
