Engineering Technician

This individual will modify, upgrade, and improve advanced electrical, pneumatic, HMI, PLC, and / or mechanical equipment in order to resolve production issues or improve processes. They will lead quality and process improvement efforts and teams with advanced programming and design or fabrication. They will also lead and direct the work of lower level technicians. In addition, this individual will require a wide degree of creativity and latitude while performing advanced tasks under minimal supervision.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Creates, builds, repairs mechanical designs or electrical / electromechanical control system and assemblies from concept to complete working system(s) .
  • Observes and implements improvements to existing electrical, pneumatic, and/or mechanical systems and work stations. Builds, modifies, or updates most production equipment, and assists lower level technicians to do so as needed.
  • Skilled in the correct use, operation and setup of technical equipment to build parts or systems to specification may include pneumatic, electrical, PLC/HMI devices, vision systems, robotics or machine tools such as Lathes, Mills, Grinders, Welders and Saws.
  • May lead or participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), product integrity audits, and process audits by providing advanced statistical analysis, results reporting, and/or developing standard audit procedures.
  • May lead, participate or carry out continuous improvement activities and team events, specifically supporting with advanced programming, configuration, design, and fabrication.
  • Performs appropriate documentation in compliance with company standards for equipment changes such as electrical schematics, pneumatics, PLC code changes or 3D mechanical drawings and dimensional mechanical prints.
  • Read and create electrical / pneumatic or mechanical blueprints and drawings.
  • Regularly works under pressure to resolve the most complex production issues quickly, often on critical systems.
  • Understand and edit existing PLC and HMI programs or CNC controlled machines, as well as create new complex programs.
  • Understand and troubleshoot advanced mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Provides guidance and directs the work of to lower level technicians. Provides 24hr emergency support as needed.
  • All work affecting product quality shall be competent on the basis of appropriate education, training, skills, and experience.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • STIHL Apprenticeship preferred, or equivalent formal training.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in mechanical, pneumatic, electrical and PLC maintenance.
  • STIHL robotics certification or equivalent experience.
  • Associates degree in engineering or other technical field.
